Check out the best dressed of the week, per Essence.com, and notice that most of these women are wearing dresses. It is not by coincidence. Now, more than any, is the time to break out that dress you’ve been saving in the closet or to purchase a few new ones so you can be prepared for any event this season. Nothing says I am a woman like a dress. And sometimes nothing is more comfortable than a summer dress. Make sure you’re not hanging all out of it and that your sides are tucked in and you’re leaving something to the imagination. Dresses are sexy, classy, comfortable, classic, eye-catching, hot, stylish and definitely worth it. Don’t miss your best dressed moment.

For the new and young professionals entering the corporate world, I just want to share something that will make your work week easy, fashionable speaking. It is okay to leave the office and head right on over to happy hour or another after-hours engagement if you follow just a few steps. You can make the necessary “transition” from daywear to nightwear without having to stop at home first, or worse, at the mall. We’ve got plenty of options but for the sake of time I’ve narrowed it down to the go-to look. For the everyday professional and fashionista, a pencil skirt is a staple piece in the wardrobe. Pair it with certain blouses or blazers to create a look that can be worn day and night. I find it to be the best option for the working girl that has several engagements to attend regularly. This look is both conservative and flattering. At the office you always want to make sure that you are appropriately dressed and not asking for too much attention to certain body parts. The length on this skirt is perfect, tends to fall right at the knee. The blazer is also important, it can be fashionable and fit in a modest manner around certain curves on the body. The top underneath can vary as long as you have one underneath… please. The pencil skirt works with flats, wedges or kitten heels. Add a few simple pieces of jewelry, such as stud earrings and a watch and you are ready for the office meeting at 8am. So when you get the memo that, “A few of us are meeting for dinner at 6″, you can be sure to respond, “count me in”. The pencil skirt then takes on a new identity. You can unbutton or remove the blazer and show off that colorful blouse and the form fitting skirt that shows how sexy and sophisticated you truly are. (As the weather cools off, try wearing a form fitting pea coat with this look.) Take off the flats that you wore in the office and change into a nice pair of 3 to 6 inch heels or wedges. Add some color and height to the outfit to create the “I’m ready to have fun look”. Those stud earrings can now be traded for hoops, chandeliers, or feather earrings. The length of the earrings will bring more attention to your facial features. Not exactly the look that you were going for in the office – but under the dim light at dinner, you’re goal is not to blend in. Touch up your make up and now you’re ready to take on the evening and all that it has in-store. Adding and subtracting pieces will make the difference. It’s simple mathematics!

Last August (2011) I was a vendor for the first time at the Today’s Black Woman Expo at McCormick Place near downtown Chicago. I must say it I could not have asked for a better experience. I had so much fun meeting all types of great women, many of them entrepreneurs and entertainers. The business owners and vendors were very professional and welcoming. The customers were very pleasant and supportive. I learned quite a bit about what my community likes and what they want to see more of from MFC. I sold feather earrings, handbags, hats, shoes, dresses and took requests for more merchandise. I was told that my prices are very fair. I didn’t receive any negative feedback and that makes me more feel more excited than ever before to keep up all the long days and longer nights to grow the website and the company. I have to thank the MFC team and my family members who were right alongside me selling at a prompt speed and making sure all questions were addressed. I must thank Ebony Love who informed me about the available booths in the first place. And without a doubt I thank all of you who purchased from me there and on the website. I hope that you are pleased with your items. I am grateful, blessed and highly favored. Thanks everyone!

Summer brings on the thoughts of fresh air, beaches, picnics, partying and seeing more of the opposite sex right? WRONG. More like shoes, dresses, rompers, accessories and the need for more space in the closet. Well the latter is definitely the mind of a Fashionista! So many trends have caught my eye for summer and it only enables “My Fashion Crush”! The one look that has stolen my heart is the romper. It’s funny because a few years ago we wouldn’t be caught dead in a one piece ANYTHING. But now this vintage 70’s look is coming back and has come back hard. Just to be clear, rompers come in solid colors, print, shorts, pants and are usually strapless. They can be dressed up, down, with flip flops, with wedges, with your favorite necklace or with eye popping earrings. However you chose to wear the romper is really your personal choice because there is really no wrong move… unless you don’t accessorize! Accessories can and will make or break this piece – or any outfit for that matter. With this simple item you want to make sure that you have statement accessories that will take the solid color to another level, or accessories that compliment and not conflict with the print. Personally, I think that a nice pair of gladiator sandals, a necklace, and cuff bracelets is the way to go for the Romper. Those 3 accessory pieces are not too much for the eye, and really make the romper sexy and fun. Rompers are being sold in stores all around you, from Nordstrom to Target and even online. They usually range from $15.00 to about $85.00 depending on the fabric or brand that you choose. For the average fashionista it’s great because it is not an expensive look but it’s a lot of fun. A Romper at a reasonable price gives you more options and extra money for those eye popping accessories that are necessary! So are you sold yet? Try on this item and watch how fast you fall in love with it!

Fashionistas, how do you do?
The fashion industry created a term for a look that has been around for years!. That phrase? Color Blocking. What this means is wearing two solid colors (or three), similar or blatantly opposite from each other on the color wheel (your preference) in one look. It is best to tie them together with a neutral item to complete the look. The big idea is that the bold colors compliment one another by making a statement that says I am fierce enough to do this. Pics are all over the Internet of celebs with blue tops and yellow bottoms or red hats and orange dresses and whatever other combination you can imagine. The retailers are selling dresses with several combos and are using a belt to “block” the contrast (I saw this look on a mannequin at Express). I like the look personally. It’s a refreshing trend for spring. The ever so popular colored pant is a popular way to start sporting this look if you dare. When I see these pants I am reminded of my childhood when I wore purple pants and pink stirrups (and even with the LA Gear Light-ups). I loved wearing color as a child, sometimes in our adult life we play it so safe, rocking blacks, browns and greys all the time. Next time you’re shopping think twice about buying another black top. I guess as an adult that sort of innocence of wearing yellow and green isn’t so appealing but it can be done in a mature way. Keep your eyes open for very sleek, sophisticated styles and most importantly remember it must be worn with total confidence and purpose. I wouldn’t wear soemthing if I had to keep staring in the mirror asking myself, “Does this look right?”. You want to turn heads, not stomachs. With that being said, proceed with caution. Happy Shopping!
